Vanessa E. bio

Growing up in an environment full of music, I was destined to be a musician. My father was a drummer in a popular Chicago band and my mother was and still is a huge music fan. Although my dad died when I was very young, my passion for being a musician and artist continued to grow.

As a kid I was content to sing on my own and make up songs. Years later I became an avid MTV video watcher and started going to concerts. Watching the rock guitarists play inspired me to want to learn guitar. At age fifteen I fell in love with a cobalt blue Kramer electric guitar and put it on lay away. Shortly after paying it off and a few guitar lessons I joined a band with some friends in high school. It was a lot of fun but short lived and a couple years later I joined an all girl hard rock band. We were an original band playing lots of clubs and trying to become famous. Although fame and riches eluded us, we became better musicians and great friends.

Some personal changes occurred during the six years of being in the band. I met Greg who was also a guitarist (in another rock band) and we got married. We started attending a non-denominational Christian church. The music drew us back week after week speaking to our very souls. The messages were taught in a way I could understand, and relate to, and my heart began to open up to God. Initially, my purpose for going to church was to become “religious” so I could feel good about myself. I thought that if I did all the right things, God would accept me.

One day at an Easter service I felt God tugging on my heart. I finally realized that He wanted to have a personal relationship with me through his son Jesus and He accepted me where I was. He wasn’t just some far away Being who kept His distance and just wanted me to do all the right things. He cared about me and loved me personally. I asked Him to come into my life and my life has never been the same!

It has been a wild ride with ups and downs but it has been exhilarating! Through it all God has been faithful despite my shortcomings. I’ve seen Him work in my life and in others in unbelievable ways.

I write songs that are about real life struggles and victories. They are diaries of my own faith in progress. My passion is to write from the heart in hopes that it will speak to the hearts of those who listen.
